The most spectacular vase we have seen commemorating the coronation of King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra in 1902.

Edward, Prince of Wales, like the current Prince Charles, waited his entire life for his mother to die so he could become King. When Edward - finally - came to the throne, he was old and ailing.

Coronation plans were made for June 26, 1902, reflected in all the memorabilia created for the event. Only days before the ceremony Edward fell grievously ill and the event was cancelled. When he was well enough again, it was rescheduled for Aug. 9, 1902. Few manufacturers bothered to retool, so few souvenir items carry the real date of his coronation.

Below, two spectacular lithographs in fabulous Edwardian frames and glass. Similar coronation portraits of Edward, are still found at Canadian antique stores and auctions, from time to time, but they are always cut down, show the wear and tear of 100 years, and are never full-sized, or in mint condition, like this one is. Portraits of Alexandra are extremely rare to find in any condition, let alone in a mint and full-sized original like this.
